Paper snowflakes are a fun and easy paper craft activity for kids and adults to do in winter. Use them to make beautiful home decoration displays, and to hang them by a window or the ceiling to celebrate winter. It is as easy as just using paper and scissors. You can also make them fancier by decorating them after they are cut into flakes.
What you Need
- Paper. Plain white or colored papers are often better for effective displays.
- Sharp scissors.
- Craft knife for intricate pattern cuts.
- Markers, crayons, stickers, glue, glitter for decorating (optional)
Six-Point Snowflake Folds
These steps are to create a six-point snowflake which give the most elegant snowflake patterns.
- Fold the paper down to make a triangle. If your paper is not square cut off the extra shape not part of the triangle.
- Fold the triangle in half.
- Fold that last triangle into three equal parts: fold the top third down 30 degrees; then fold the bottom third over the first and flatten the crease.
- Flip the paper over and cut along the edge to trim off the points.

Snowflake Pattern Cutout
Now it is time to cut the triangle to create the snowflake pattern.
- With a light pencil, trace your snowflake pattern shape over the triangle. Trace whatever shapes you want. Each shape will individualize the snowflake.
- Take the scissors and cut out shapes along the edges of the folded paper.
- When done, unfold the triangle very carefully and admire the pretty snowflake you just made.
- To remove most of the creases and flatten the snowflake, put something heavy on top and leave it like that for an hour or so. Or iron it below a sheet of wax paper.
- Then, if you want, decorate it with some glitter glue to give it a festive impact.
